Trump in the Quagmire of War with Iran; No Exit Strategy in Sight

Tehran-IRAF- Sidney Blumenthal, a former senior adviser to ex‑U.S. President Bill Clinton, wrote in an article in “The Guardian”: “U.S. President Donald Trump is trapped in a quagmire. His objectives are unattainable. His bombings will not force people to surrender, and he has no strategy for an exit.”

He continued: Trump is lost in the fog of his own war. He mixes confusion with fabricated lies because his naïve expectation of a swift and decisive victory in the Strait of Hormuz has fallen apart. Trump thought Iran would easily follow the “perfect Venezuela scenario,” and that there would be no disruption to oil markets. This was described as “a strong game plan” by Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary and a full‑throated defender of his ever‑changing justifications.

The Guardian’s writer described the foundation of Trump’s argument as absurd and his strategies as unstable and driven by illusion. He added that the belief that a coherent meaning can be extracted from Trump’s chaotic and disordered words reflects the weakness of a logical mind that refuses to accept the motivations of this deeply rooted demagogue. Searching for reason in the jungle of Trump’s storytelling may push otherwise sensible people to impose logic where none exists in order to make the content appear rational.

The author added that Trump’s erratic efforts to shift his own logic increasingly expose his incompetence and incomprehensibility—traits that were entirely predictable but have now become globally dangerous. Nevertheless, the stream of his scattered remarks has clearly created a record that should be examined in congressional investigations into the origins, planning, and execution of the war.

In Trump’s war, he now faces his own “Vietnam.” His “credibility gap” is profound. He is stuck in a quagmire. His objectives are vague, and his bombings do not produce surrender. He has alienated America’s allies and is creating a humanitarian disaster. Trump is also generating economic bankruptcy and has no strategy for ending the conflict. “Good morning, Vietnam.”

The British newspaper also reported that on March 11, Trump traveled to Kentucky to rally his supporters, stirring enthusiasm for the war and directing attacks against Congressman Thomas Massie—one of the leading advocates for exposing the files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump claimed victory in the war, saying: “You know, you never want to say too early that you’ve won. But we won. In the very first hour, it was all over.”

He then attacked Massie. The congressman had previously announced that he intended to use the War Powers Resolution mechanism to force the House of Representatives to hold a vote—an action that, if passed, would require the U.S. president to obtain congressional authorization before taking any military action against Iran.
