Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir discussed the latest regional developments, rising tensions and ways to strengthen long-term regional security in a telephone call on Thursday night.
As reported by IRAF, the two officials reviewed the impact of recent security developments on regional peace and stability and stressed the need for vigilance and coordination among regional countries in response to ongoing developments.
Araghchi and Munir also discussed ways to use shared regional capacities to contribute to the establishment of lasting peace and stability.
Tehran Steps Up Regional Diplomatic Consultations
The call came as part of Iran’s ongoing diplomatic consultations with key regional countries aimed at addressing the current crisis and containing tensions.
Araghchi has also held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, during which the two sides discussed the latest regional developments and stressed the importance of continued cooperation and diplomatic efforts to prevent a further escalation of tensions.
The high-level consultations come amid recent U.S. military activity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as United Nations Security Council discussions concerning Iran’s nuclear file.
Against this backdrop, Tehran has sought closer coordination with key regional actors, particularly neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as it works to address regional instability and what it describes as extra-regional interference.
