BRICS and Iran’s Position
The BRICS group is an economic and political cooperation framework among major emerging economies. Its name comes from the initials of its founding members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The group aims to strengthen economic cooperation, reduce dependence on Western financial structures, develop independent financial mechanisms such as the New Development Bank (NDB), increase the role of developing countries in global governance, and counter unilateralism.
Iran has joined BRICS in its expanded phase and, given its energy resources, geostrategic location, and economic capabilities, is considered an important member in the group’s new stage of cooperation.
