Taliban Response to Drone Attacks in Ghazni: “It’s a Rumor”

According to Iraf, Hamidullah Nisar, head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Ghazni, today (Thursday, May 14) called the reports of drone airstrikes over parts of the provincial center “rumors” and labeled them part of “propaganda by the enemies of Afghanistan’s peace, security, and progress.”

He claimed that some Western media have become “mouthpieces for the enemies of the Islamic system,” spreading false reports to manipulate public perception.

Nisar asked Ghazni residents to cooperate with the Taliban in identifying individuals involved in disseminating such information.

This statement comes amid local reports over the past days of continuous drone flights and several airstrikes in different areas of Ghazni, which have heightened concerns about the province’s fragile security situation.

Local sources said that around 1 p.m. Wednesday, three strikes occurred in the Nowabad area and two more in the Qala-e-Shahada area — both in Ghazni’s 6th security district — with explosions heard across the city.

They also noted that on Sunday, a commercial complex in the Bazzazi area, part of the 2nd security district, had been targeted by an airstrike.

According to these sources, all attacks were carried out by drones, which continued flying over Ghazni until yesterday, creating public anxiety.

Some local sources further claimed that the Taliban relocated members of the Pakistani armed group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) into residential homes in Ghazni — an action they believe could lead to increased insecurity and further attacks in the province.

Previously, Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban of sheltering armed groups in Afghanistan who then act against Pakistan. The Taliban have consistently denied these allegations, calling them “political and baseless.”

Kunar province has also recently witnessed heavy Pakistani military attacks and border clashes, which were temporarily halted through mediation by tribal elders on both sides.

Meanwhile, local sources in Kabul reported early today drone flights and anti-aircraft fire in parts of the capital, a development on which the Taliban have yet to comment.
