According to IRAF, a surge in militant violence across Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, coupled with renewed attacks in neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and growing political uncertainty, has intensified concerns over the country’s security landscape.
Recent attacks, ongoing counterterrorism operations, protests over enforced disappearances, and reports of a possible leadership reshuffle in Balochistan have underscored the mounting challenges facing Pakistani authorities.
Security officials said unidentified gunmen opened fire on an ambulance in Musakhel district, wounding two people in one of the latest attacks to hit the province. The incident highlighted persistent security vulnerabilities in remote areas of Balochistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistani security forces continued their large-scale Azm operation in Mastung district, killing three suspected separatist militants and raising the total number of militants killed during the operation to 13, according to security sources.
Officials said troops recovered bomb-making materials during the raids and arrested several women allegedly linked to planned suicide attacks, indicating that militant groups operating in the province are adopting increasingly sophisticated tactics.
In neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Pakistan Army said it foiled a suicide attack by militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in South Waziristan. According to the military, security forces destroyed an explosives-laden vehicle before it reached a military checkpoint, killing all three attackers and preventing casualties among troops.
The attempted bombing came a day after a deadly assault on a security post in Tank district that, according to local sources, killed 15 people, raising fears of a renewed wave of militant violence in northwestern Pakistan.
Separately, families of missing persons and civil society activists staged a protest outside the Quetta Press Club, demanding that authorities either produce Baloch social activist Asif Baloch before a court or release him immediately. His family alleges that he was detained by security agencies several months ago and has since been held without due process.
The demonstrations have gained momentum in recent weeks, adding to pressure on the provincial administration amid continued allegations of enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
Political uncertainty has also deepened, with media reports suggesting consultations are underway in Islamabad over a possible change in the provincial leadership. Pakistani media have named Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, and veteran politician Nawab Aslam Raisani as potential successors to Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
The federal government has not officially commented on the reports. Analysts say the worsening security situation, mounting political pressure, and growing public discontent could accelerate changes in Balochistan’s provincial leadership as Islamabad seeks to contain unrest in one of Pakistan’s most volatile regions.
