Ismail Baghaei, on Monday morning, May 25, 2026, at his weekly press conference, responding to a question from an IRAF correspondent regarding the recent visit of Pakistani officials to Tehran and the possibility of Iran’s mediation to reduce tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, stated: “At this stage, we are focused on ending the war in the region.”
Referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sensitivity toward developments between neighboring countries, he added: “The issue of tensions between our neighbors, Afghanistan and Pakistan, is a matter of concern to us.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson continued: “At all levels of governance and across our country, we have repeatedly declared that we will spare no effort in any action we can take to ease tensions and reduce violence.”
Baghaei further emphasized: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has communicated this position to various parties and seeks the resolution of disputes through dialogue and political solutions.”
The spokesperson’s remarks come as, in recent weeks, tensions and border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have escalated, raising concerns about the spread of instability in the region.
