According to Iraf, Sayed Suleiman Ashna, a Pashtun journalist from Afghanistan, said that with the collapse of the previous government, the constitution has effectively lost its authority. Under Article 4 of the former constitution, the term “Afghan” served as a collective and national identity for all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.
Ashna explained that following the fall of the previous administration, the constitution has been effectively nullified. As a result, the national identity and legal framework that unified all Afghans under the “Afghan” identity have disappeared.
Taliban as a Pashtun Ethnic Movement
Ashna further stated that the Taliban do not represent all ethnic groups in the country. He described the group as a primarily Pashtun ethnic movement.
He noted that currently, the people of Afghanistan are recognized according to their ethnic affiliations—such as Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, and Pashtun—rather than a unified national identity.
