Iran’s top security officials have warned that any U.S.-Israeli attack on the country’s energy infrastructure would trigger a broad retaliatory response targeting Israeli critical infrastructure and U.S. energy assets across the region.
According to IRAF, Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Iran’s armed forces maintained full control over key regional maritime routes and strategic chokepoints, warning that continued U.S. maritime pressure would fail to deter Tehran.
“Continued maritime blockade and hostile actions by the United States will not serve as a deterrent. Instead, they will further reinforce the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and could lead to the disruption of other strategic maritime chokepoints across the region,” Zolqadr said.
He added that any escalation would have far-reaching economic consequences, arguing that the global economy, international energy markets and, ultimately, American citizens would bear the cost of what he described as “the war-driven decisions of U.S. officials.”
Separately, a senior Iranian security official dismissed recent Western media reports suggesting the United States and Israel were considering joint strikes on Iranian energy facilities, describing the reports as “psychological warfare born of desperation.”
The official said Iran had prepared a comprehensive response plan in the event of any military action.
“If the enemy commits any military aggression, Iran’s response will go beyond previous equations and will include direct strikes against Israel’s critical infrastructure as well as key U.S. energy facilities and supply networks across the region,” the official said.
The warnings come amid renewed speculation in some Western media over possible military options targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure. Iranian officials have increasingly highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes under normal conditions.
Iranian officials argue that the waterway remains a key element of the country’s deterrence strategy. They have also suggested that any prolonged maritime confrontation could expand beyond the Strait of Hormuz to affect other regional shipping routes, including the Bab el-Mandeb and the Red Sea, with potential consequences for global energy supplies and international markets.
Regional analysts say the latest statements from Tehran are intended to reinforce Iran’s position that any attack on its domestic infrastructure would be met with reciprocal action against the economic and strategic interests of its adversaries.
