Reactions to the Iran-U.S. Understanding on Afghanistan: From “Historic Victory” to Welcoming Regional Stability

According to Iraf, Sheikh Zakaria Mashkoor Kabuli, an Afghan political figure, in a message congratulating “the historic victory of the Iranian nation,” declared that the imposed war against Iran and the resistance axis has ended on all fronts.

He said the United States, by acknowledging defeat, has recognized Iran’s demands and rights.

Mashkoor Kabuli added that the leadership of the Islamic Republic, under the most difficult circumstances, succeeded in transforming a great historic threat into a great opportunity, and that the solidarity of Iran’s military forces, officials, and people led to the neutralization of all enemy plans.

He also claimed that Iran, throughout the course of recent developments, defended the resistance axis with authority, and that the ultimate outcome of this process has been the consolidation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s standing.

Meanwhile, Leila Forough, welcoming the realization of the agreement between Iran and the United States, stated that regardless of political and technical assessments, the continuation of the war could have imposed heavy and irreparable costs on Iran and its people.

She added that peace, even if not complete or ideal, is under current circumstances far more valuable than the continuation of war and the spread of destruction.

Hanif Atmar, former Afghan foreign minister, also described the signing of the memorandum between the United States and Iran as a major success for the region and the international community.

He said that if this document is implemented in accordance with its announced commitments, it should be regarded as cause for congratulating the Iranian nation and the countries of the region.

Atmar added that, based on statements made regarding the content of the memorandum, its outcome appears to be a return to the pre-war situation — a matter that, in his view, reveals the futility and failure of the war for those who initiated it.

He also stressed that this agreement could be regarded as a victory for peace-loving and resilient nations, while simultaneously raising questions about Pakistan’s role with respect to Afghanistan and the necessity of forming a legitimate political system based on the will of the people in Afghanistan.

Separately, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, speaking at a regional meeting of think tanks from Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Azerbaijan held in Kabul, assessed the agreement between Iran and the United States as a positive development.

He said peace serves the interest of all countries in the region, and that insecurity and instability carry negative consequences for the region and the world.

Muttaqi added that before tensions and international conflicts arise, efforts should be made through dialogue to resolve disputes and problems.

Additionally, Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy minister of economy in the Taliban government, in a published commentary, described the Iran-U.S. memorandum as part of the process of shaping a new order in the Middle East.

He said this memorandum could provide a dignified path for the United States to exit the crisis and serve as a prelude to a shift in Iran’s regional and global standing.

Nazari added that the recent war has strengthened the model of asymmetric power held by Iran and the resistance front and, in the view of many analysts, has elevated Iran’s standing in global power equations.

He also wrote that the recent war has cast doubt on the effectiveness of certain American military equipment and doctrines, prompting a reconsideration of certain military approaches at the international level.

Nazari stressed that the signing of the memorandum could consolidate the gains achieved on the battlefield and through diplomacy and lay the groundwork for new developments in the equations of the Middle East.
