Afghan cyclist Fariba Hashemi secured the silver medal in the women’s road cycling event at the Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, delivering a strong performance to claim the runner-up spot and add to Afghanistan’s achievements at the continental competition.
As reported by IRAF, Fariba Hashemi, a young Afghan cyclist, competed against some of Asia’s leading riders in the road cycling event at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya early Tuesday. She crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 50 minutes and 5 seconds to take second place.
In the closely contested race, the Chinese representative recorded the fastest time to finish first and claim the gold medal.
Hashemi maintained a strong pace throughout the course and made several precise accelerations, narrowing the gap with the leader before ultimately securing second place on the podium.
The silver medal marks an important achievement for Afghanistan’s delegation, coming in one of the continent’s highly competitive sporting events and once again highlighting the capabilities of Afghan athletes on the international stage.
The Nagoya Asian Games in Japan are continuing with athletes from across Asia taking part, while Afghanistan’s delegation will be looking to build on its performance and secure further achievements in the competition.
