Dogharoon Emerges as Key Eastern Hub for Trade, Transit, and Logistics

According to Iraf, Mohammadreza Moudodi, in a joint meeting of the managers and deputies of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Free Zones with the managers of the Dogharoon Free Zone, announced the drafting of the territorial development document for this region based on the “Seventh-Generation Free Zones” approach, and stated: This document, as a roadmap for the development of Dogharoon, outlines the path for forming a modern commercial city in the east of the country.

Referring to the strategic capacities of the region, he added: The proximity to the 40-million market of Afghanistan and being located along the Mashhad-Herat communication axis make Dogharoon one of the most important potential hubs for trade, transit, and logistical services in eastern Iran.

The CEO of Dogharoon Free Zone, emphasizing the role of the private sector in the development of the region, stated: Our approach is not only land allocation and short-term income generation; rather, we strive, through participatory models, to create the grounds for sustainable investment, value creation, and long-term economic development.

Referring to the necessity of transformation in the commercial structure of the region, he said: Our goal is to move beyond traditional trade towards modern markets, smart services, and connecting Dogharoon to regional and international value chains.

He cited saffron value chain development and exports and digital healthcare as two important axes of the region’s development programs, adding: Considering Khorasan Razavi’s role in saffron production, Dogharoon has the capacity to become a hub for processing, packaging, and exporting this product.

The CEO of Dogharoon Free Zone also mentioned plans for the development of health tourism and digital medical services, stating: Our aim is to attract a part of the healthcare market of neighboring countries, especially Afghanistan, and provide technology-based health services.

Continuing, he referred to major investment projects in the region, saying: The construction of a fuel city, exhibition city, a 700-hectare mining zone, and a 20-megawatt solar farm are among the plans for which contracts or memoranda of understanding have been signed.

Moudodi, in conclusion, mentioned the 10-kilometer Silk Road Highway as one of the transformative projects of the region and noted: The implementation of this project can change the face of Dogharoon Free Zone and turn this region into a showcase of economic development in eastern Iran.
