Iran: US and Israel Responsible for Minab School Killings

Tehran- IRAF- Ali Bahreini, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva, said on Monday, 9 March  , during the 61st session of the Human Rights Council: “Today the people of Iran are mourning the killing of 168 innocent schoolgirls who were brutally massacred on the first day of the illegal attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran’s territorial integrity.”

Our country’s ambassador emphasized: “The ruthless targeting of the Minab school in Iran on February 28 and the killing of girls aged between 7 and 12 is a war crime and an act prohibited under Article 8 of the Rome Statute.”

Bahreini stated: “Without any ambiguity or doubt, responsibility for this act lies with the United States and Israel as the aggressors. The illegal attacks against Iran are condemned, and targeting civilians, including schools and children, is a deeply reprehensible and abhorrent act.”

During the meeting, the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, the Special Representative of the Secretary‑General for Children and Armed Conflict, a representative of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, and a representative of the Red Cross condemned attacks on schools during wars and armed conflicts.

The Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights and the representative of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, while referring to the killing of more than 160 children in the Minab school, expressed their deep regret over this tragic incident.
