Tehran- IRAF- Ali Azari, head of the Assembly of Representatives of Razavi Khorasan Province and the representative of Quchan and Faruj in Parliament said: “Iran has been attacked and we absolutely have the right to defend ourselves and punish the aggressors. This is the demand of the powerful Iranian nation. International law and legal documents also recognize the right of defense for a country that has been subjected to aggression as legitimate and emphasized.”
Azari added that “by the grace of God, the victorious side in this field will be a strong Iran,” noting that “hostile countries, in accordance with international regulations, are obliged to pay compensation and lift sanctions.”
He also called on the presidential institution, advisors, and members of parliament to be careful in their language during discussions and to refrain from making statements that could later be used against the country in international courts.
Referring to the Charter of the United Nations, Azari concluded: “While this charter fully prohibits war, it recognizes the inherent right of states to resort to legitimate self‑defense as a natural right.”
In Iran’s domestic political discourse, the concepts of “legitimate defense” and “active deterrence” are prominent, and officials emphasize the need to avoid statements that could be cited against the country in international forums.
Within this context, remarks by members of parliament about Iran’s right to respond are seen as part of efforts to reinforce deterrence and signal the potential cost of any attack. At the same time, the framework of international law, the sensitivities of neighboring states, and the risk of tensions spilling over into a broader conflict make the decision‑making landscape complex and high‑risk.
