Five informed individuals told Reuters that the Donald Trump administration plans to meet with the managers of the largest military and arms contractors in the United States at the White House on Friday to discuss accelerating weapon production.
They stated that Lockheed Martin managers, along with other key suppliers of the Pentagon, have been invited to attend this meeting.
This news comes as media reports have expressed growing concern about the severe reduction of US military reserves in the war.
Accordingly, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported yesterday that the US is considering transferring its Patriot and THAAD systems from South Korea to the West Asia region.
According to Reuters, the White House meeting with arms company managers is a sign of the “urgency felt” in Washington to strengthen military reserves and ammunition as quickly as possible.
This meeting takes place while the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, Steve Fainberg, is leading the work at the Pentagon for an additional $50 billion budget.
This additional budget will be used to replace the weapons used in recent conflicts, but this is an initial figure and may change.
At least one of these sources stated that the Trump administration is expected to focus on “pressuring weapon manufacturers to act faster to increase production” during the White House meeting.
The Pentagon is expected to publish a list of inefficient contractors.
The companies named in this list will have 15 days to provide their approved plans to improve the situation. If these plans are deemed insufficient, the Pentagon may pursue executive actions, including contract termination.
