Global Wave of Opposition to the Aggression Against Iran: You Cannot Gamble With the Fate of Millions

Tehran- IRAF- citing IRNA, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in his latest remarks, stated that Madrid would not be complicit in actions that are bad for the world and contrary to Spain’s values and interests. He warned that major human catastrophes begin from precisely this point, adding: “You cannot play Russian roulette with the fate of millions of people.”

These remarks were made as Washington, following Spain’s opposition to the use of joint U.S.–Spanish bases in the south of the country for operations against Iran, directed threats toward Madrid. Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister also stated that the country would not be “subordinate or obedient” to anyone and would not tolerate threats.

At the same time in the United States, Democratic senators and a number of Republicans have sought to challenge the path toward war from within Congress. Reuters reported that the U.S. Senate is set to begin the voting process on a resolution aimed at halting the military campaign against Iran and requiring any continuation of hostilities to receive explicit authorization from Congress.

In Beijing, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the continuation of the attacks in stronger language than in previous days. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a phone call with his Israeli counterpart, called for an immediate end to the attacks and emphasized that force does not resolve issues and often leaves heavy and long-term consequences.

The spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry also stated at a recent press briefing that China is deeply saddened by civilian casualties, stressing that the protection of civilians in armed conflicts is a red line, that the use of force is unacceptable, and that all parties must adhere to their obligations under international law.

In New York, the UN Secretary-General described the use of force by the United States and Israel against Iran as an action that undermines international peace and security. Explicitly recalling the UN Charter, he called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and de-escalation, warning that the continuation of the current course could lead to a broader regional conflict with severe consequences for civilians and regional stability.

At the same time, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in a statement issued by its Secretariat, declared the use of force unacceptable and emphasized the necessity of resolving disputes “exclusively through peaceful means.”

The statement stressed that Iran’s “sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity” must be guaranteed and called on the United Nations and the Security Council to take “immediate action” to counter the weakening of international peace and security.

In Moscow as well, the main lines of Russia’s position have been based on condemning the attacks and emphasizing a political solution. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council described the U.S. and Israeli attacks as an “act of aggression” and a “violation of the Charter,” and, pointing to the coincidence of the military operations with diplomatic processes, called them a “betrayal of diplomacy.” He demanded an immediate halt to the actions and a return to the political and negotiating track.

Taken together, these positions and reactions from Europe and Asia to the United Nations and even parts of the U.S. political establishment indicate that the voices of protest against this act of aggression are growing louder, and that concerns about the consequences of continued attacks on regional stability and the principles of international law are spreading.

The joint military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, during which Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, was martyred, began at dawn on the ninth day of February 28. This action took place while indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by several regional countries, were underway.

Analysts believe this action demonstrated that the United States, in practice, lacks the necessary commitment to the principles of dialogue, confidence-building, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, and continues to rely on the military option as a tool of political pressure.

Following the start of the joint military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran delivered a decisive, targeted, and proportionate response. Within the framework of this legitimate response, military and security positions of the Israeli regime in various cities across the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as bases and centers hosting U.S. forces in the region, were precisely targeted by missile, drone, and aerial strikes.

Officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have emphasized that these operations were conducted within the framework of the inherent right of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, with the aim of deterrence, preventing the continuation of aggression, and imposing costs on the aggressors. Iran has warned that any continuation or expansion of the aggression will be met with a more severe and extensive response.
