Tehran- IRAF- the Ministry of Industry and Commerce reported the growth of Afghanistan’s saffron exports in 2025, stating that 56 tons of saffron were sold to international markets for a total value of $54 million.
This figure represents a $10 million increase compared to 2024 and reflects the strengthening of Afghanistan’s saffron position in the country’s foreign trade.
The ministry stated that the export growth resulted from expanded cultivation areas, improved processing quality, and increased demand in regional and international markets.
Afghan saffron, primarily produced in Herat province, has in recent years become recognized as a premium, high-quality product in global markets and plays an important role in Afghanistan’s economy.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in 2025 Afghanistan exported saffron to India, Spain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Oman.
The ministry noted that the diversity of export destinations demonstrates the growing global market for Afghan saffron and the increasing capacity of Afghan producers to compete internationally.
