Tehran- IRAF- The Taliban once again reacted to developments in the Middle East by issuing a statement condemning the continued attacks by the Israeli regime and describing the Gaza Peace Council as lacking both legal and popular legitimacy.
Hanafi Wardak, the Taliban’s Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted a message today (Saturday, February 21) on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Gaza Peace Council in no way represents the true will and demands of the people of Gaza and Palestine.
He emphasized that the formation of such bodies cannot provide a fair and law-based solution to end the Palestinian crisis.
In another part of his remarks, the Taliban official warned that such initiatives effectively undermine the role and standing of independent international institutions and pave the way for imposing a predetermined political and security structure on the oppressed people of Gaza.
Wardak’s comments come as the war and what he described as genocide in Gaza continue, and the international community remains politically deadlocked over establishing a ceasefire.
This comes as participants gathered Thursday evening at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., for a session of the Gaza Peace Council.
Representatives from several countries attended the meeting in Washington, D.C., and approximately 24 countries have joined the board of directors, which is chaired by the President of the United States.
The Gaza Peace Council was initially established as a limited body tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which was devastated by what were described as war crimes by the Israeli regime.
However, according to a draft charter, its mission has since expanded to addressing conflicts worldwide.
