Tehran-IRAF- based on reports, the meeting of the “Contact Group of Special Representatives for Afghanistan” will take place tomorrow in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The meeting is planned to discuss Afghanistan’s political, economic, and humanitarian conditions, as well as the country’s role in regional cooperation.
The first meeting of this group was held in February 2024 in Kabul, with the participation of Taliban representatives, ambassadors, and special envoys from neighboring and regional countries.
During that meeting, discussions focused on security issues, development, and regional cooperation.
According to reports, the time and agenda for the new meeting were discussed during a recent meeting between Ismatullah Argashev, Uzbekistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, and Bibut Atamkulov, Kazakhstan’s ambassador in Tashkent.
The two sides discussed the latest economic and humanitarian developments in Afghanistan, as well as the challenges the country faces.
Additionally, Uzbek and Kazakh officials had previously exchanged views on February 5 regarding Afghanistan’s potential role in regional connectivity projects, particularly the nationwide railway project in Afghanistan — a topic expected to receive attention at tomorrow’s meeting.
