Tehran- IRAF- during the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships held in Tianjin, China, Abdullahi delivered a performance that exceeded expectations.
The Afghanistan Athletics Federation has officially confirmed the record-breaking achievement.
The young runner completed the 3,000 meters in 9:25.71, improving Afghanistan’s previous national record—set by Mohammad Karim Yaqout in Tehran in 2015 with a time of 9:30.15, by nearly five seconds.
Although Abdullahi ranked tenth among ten competitors in the event, registering such a time is considered a significant accomplishment for both the athlete and Afghan athletics.
In this competition, Abdullahi competed against runners from China, Pakistan, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, and Iran.
Sports analysts believe that improvements in endurance events reflect advances in training quality and technical preparedness among Afghan athletes—developments that could pave the way for a stronger presence in future international competitions.
This edition of the Asian Indoor Championships is regarded as one of the most important stages in preparing continental athletes for upcoming global events, and Abdullahi’s performance has revived fresh hopes for the future of Afghan athletics.
