Afghanistan’s Consul Visits Mashhad, Highlights Migrant Issues and Border Expansion Progress

Tehran- IRAF- The Afghan Consulate General in Mashhad has announced, in a statement, the visit of the Consul General and his accompanying delegation to South Khorasan Province and their meetings with provincial officials.

According to the statement, Noor Mohammad Motevakel, Afghanistan’s Consul General in Mashhad, met and held talks during the visit with Mohammad Reza Hashemi, the Governor of South Khorasan, and Afsaneh Ebrahimi, Head of the Provincial Office of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During these meetings, the two sides exchanged views on following up on the challenges faced by Afghan migrants residing in South Khorasan as well as on expanding economic and trade cooperation between Farah Province in Afghanistan and South Khorasan Province.

During the visit, Noor Mohammad Motevakel also visited Afghan prisoners at Birjand Central Prison, listened to their concerns, and participated in the eighth session of the Export Development Working Group and the Border Trade Regulation Council of South Khorasan.

It is worth noting that South Khorasan recorded USD 230 million in exports during the first seven months of the current year, ranking first among Iran’s customs offices in exports to Afghanistan.

It should also be noted that Mahirood Customs Office in South Khorasan ranks first in exports among Iran’s 71 border customs offices.
