Tehran- IRAF- Citing today’s report (Thursday, February 5), Seyyed Karim Hashemi, President of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said during a meeting with Alireza Bigdeli, Acting Ambassador of Iran in Kabul, that the facilities Iran has provided to Afghan traders in recent months have played an important role in increasing trade volume and streamlining transit.
He emphasized that Afghanistan views the expansion of economic cooperation with Iran as a strategic opportunity, adding that the country’s Chamber of Commerce is pursuing specific plans to expand joint investments and raise the level of bilateral trade.
According to Hashemi, strengthening these cooperations can help improve the economic conditions of the people of both countries and pave the way for the implementation of joint projects in various sectors.
During the meeting, Iran’s Acting Ambassador presented a report on Tehran’s recent measures, including speeding up cargo transfers, improving transit services, creating operational facilitations at border crossings, and upgrading transportation infrastructure along trade routes.
Bigdeli also announced that Iran is working to provide better conditions for the movement of drivers, transport companies, and economic operators from both countries, so that trade can proceed more quickly and securely.
One of the key topics of the discussion was the development of the Dogharoun–Islam Qala transit route, which is considered the main artery of trade between Iran and Afghanistan. Enhancing this route could significantly increase trade capacity.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the continuation of cooperation and the follow-up of joint projects.
It is worth noting that Iran remains Afghanistan’s largest trading partner, with the volume of bilateral trade now reaching approximately $3.5 billion.
