New Google Scandal: “Gemini” AI Technology Used in Service of the Israeli Regime

Tehran- IRAF- a U.S. media outlet has reported on a confidential complaint submitted by a former Google employee, alleging that the tech giant breached its ethical policies by cooperating with a military contractor linked to the Israeli regime.

In the complaint, the whistleblower stressed that this cooperation stands in clear contradiction to Google’s AI Principles, which explicitly prohibit the use of artificial intelligence in weapons systems or surveillance activities that violate international norms.

The complaint further alleges that by disregarding its publicly stated policies, Google misled not only its investors but also regulatory authorities, and may have violated U.S. securities laws.

According to The Washington Post, the complaint—submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—indicates that in 2024 Google assisted a military contractor of the Israeli regime in analyzing drone footage, thereby breaching its public commitments.

Internal Google documents reportedly show that the company’s Gemini AI technology was provided to a firm named CloudAX, which is identified as a contractor for the Israeli military and maintains close cooperation with Tel Aviv’s military structure.

Direct Request to Google’s Cloud Division

In July 2024, Google’s cloud computing division received a technical request from an email account affiliated with the Israeli military. The stated objective of the request was to enhance the accuracy of identifying drones, armored vehicles, and human personnel in aerial imagery.

Previously, cooperation between major technology companies and the Israeli regime—particularly during the Gaza war—had sparked widespread protests by employees and human rights activists.

This latest revelation once again raises serious questions about the genuine commitment of technology companies to ethical principles and their avoidance of involvement in military conflicts.

Earlier, Google also faced internal backlash after dismissing 50 employees for staging sit-ins at the company’s offices in New York and California in opposition to Project Nimbus.

Google employees, operating under the banner “Googlers Against Genocide,” told Middle East Eye, how they endured threats from the company and other staff members due to their pro‑Palestinian activism.
