Taliban Exclude Non-Pashtun Cultural Figures from Palace Meeting

Tehran- IRAF- The Presidential Palace hosted a gathering on Monday attended by senior Taliban officials and a group of Pashtun cultural figures. A reliable source told IRAF that no Tajik, Hazara, or Uzbek cultural activists were invited to the meeting.

The source added that the meeting was organized at the initiative of Tajmir Jawad, the deputy head of the Taliban’s intelligence agency.

According to the source, by order of Tajmir Jawad, only Pashtun cultural and media activists were invited, and no representatives of other ethnic groups were present at the meeting.

The source further stated that Tajmir Javad justified his opposition to the participation of activists from other ethnic groups by saying: “They are not trustworthy.”

What Was the Content of the Meeting?

According to reports published by official Taliban media, a ceremony described as “an event to honor writers and cultural and intellectual fighters” was held at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

Afghanistan’s National Television reported that, in the presence of Mollah Abdol Wasi, Director General of the Office of the Taliban Prime Minister, along with several cabinet members and senior administrative and military officials, the activities of the Taliban government’s “cultural and intellectual fighters” were praised.

Very little information about him is available in the media, and the only confirmed data is that he was appointed Deputy Director of the Taliban Intelligence Directorate on December 7, 2021.

Nevertheless, his position within the Taliban’s complex intelligence apparatus indicates that Tajmir Jawad plays a significant role in the group’s power structure.
