Tehran- IRAF- The Public Relations Office of the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today (Saturday, January 24) in a statement that; Mohammad Is’haq Dar, who is currently visiting the United Arab Emirates, held a telephone conversation with Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, to discuss regional developments.
During the call, Iran’s Foreign Minister thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their support for Iran at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, including Pakistan’s request for a vote and its negative vote against the Iran‑related resolution.
The 39th special session of the United Nations Human Rights Council was held yesterday at its headquarters in Geneva, with the alleged human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran on the agenda.
At the meeting, Munib Ahmad, Counsellor of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, voted against the anti‑Iran resolution of the UN Human Rights Council. Referring to the bonds of friendship rooted in culture, history, and religion between the two countries, he said: “Pakistan will always remain a friend of Iran and the Iranian people everywhere. Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan’s independence.”
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability as a guarantor of human rights for the people of Iran and across the region, the Pakistani representative stated that the protests cannot be separated from the context of the loss of life and destruction suffered by the Iranian people as a result of illegal military attacks by a regional aggressor in June last year.
He said that sanctions, military action, and intervention have only caused suffering in Iran, and therefore the legitimacy of imposed judgments without Iran’s consent remains questionable.
Munib Ahmad added that confrontation only reduces the space for genuine dialogue, exposes the Council’s global mandate to accusations of selectivity, and harms the human rights of the Iranian people.
Meanwhile, earlier, Dr. Mas’oud Pezeshkian, in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Pakistan (Monday, January 20), expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s support and described the recent developments in the country as the result of efforts by the United States and the Zionist regime to disrupt unity and the development of regional relations, stating that the widespread participation of the people had foiled these plots.
