Tehran- IRAF-The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that out of approximately 500,000 people affected by the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, 221,000 remain in urgent need of aid.
The report notes that responding to this crisis faces serious challenges due to a lack of financial resources, with many families still living without shelter or essential supplies.
Only $38 Million Secured Out of $111 Million Requested
OCHA stated that so far, only $38 million of the $111 million requested for supporting the affected population has been provided.
A Devastating 6.0-Magnitude Earthquake
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake, which struck eastern provinces, particularly Kunar, in September, was one of Afghanistan’s deadliest in recent years. It killed over 2,200 people and injured 3,600 others.
At least 6,700 homes were completely destroyed, leaving large numbers of people homeless.
Meanwhile, Save the Children reported that nearly 1,200 children died in the quake, with thousands more displaced. Children account for more than half of the total victims of this disaster.
This situation highlights the urgent need for increased funding to deliver humanitarian assistance to those affected.
