Tehran-IRAF- California Governor Gavin Newsom, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, urged European countries to stand firm against US President Donald Trump and “hit him” to force him to back down.
In a blunt statement, Newsom described Trump as weak, saying: “He’s skilled at exploiting weaknesses, but when you punch him in the face, he’ll back down.” He told Europeans: “Enough of this coddling. Stop trying to calm him down. Fight fire with fire.”
Greenland: Greedy but civilian
The Governor of California called Trump’s greed for dominating Greenland “insane”, but emphasized that Trump would not try to seize it “by military means”. He said: “All this talk about Greenland is nonsense, and people should stand firm, speak with one voice, and punch him in the face.”
The political context: Possible candidacy in 2028
Newsom, who is considered one of the prominent figures of the Democratic Party and is likely to run for the 2028 US presidential election, has particularly criticized Trump in international circles.
These statements come as Trump’s relationships with European allies during his presidency have been consistently tense.
Previously, Politico reported that the European Union was preparing for a direct confrontation with Donald Trump over Greenland. According to the publication, while Trump’s comments about potentially seizing Greenland were previously considered mere political rhetoric, European officials now warn that they face a serious threat and must prepare for it as soon as possible.
