Tehran-IRAF- As winter sets in and international aid dwindles, the hunger crisis in Afghanistan has intensified, leaving millions facing severe food shortages.
Reuters reports that according to the World Food Programme’s estimates, at least 17 million people in Afghanistan are struggling with severe hunger.
The situation has worsened due to a significant decline in foreign aid, the report says.
The World Food Programme has warned that with the loss of job opportunities during winter and the cut in aid, around three million more people are at risk of severe hunger.
The agency added that last year saw the highest rate of malnutrition in Afghanistan, and it predicts that around 200,000 more children will suffer from acute malnutrition by 2026.
Humanitarian organizations say the available assistance is insufficient to meet the needs of families, and if more funding is not secured, the humanitarian situation in the country will deteriorate further.
