According to Iraf News Agency, Ahmad bin Hamad Al-Khalili, Oman’s Grand Mufti, took to the social media platform X to denounce the global community’s inaction regarding the recent events in Venezuela, questioning the role of international organizations and human rights bodies in responding to the crisis.
In his post, Al-Khalili wrote: “The events in Venezuela raise the question of whether we have returned to the ‘law of the jungle,’ where the weak are subjected to oppression and force without any accountability or sense of responsibility.”
International Silence Called ‘Surprising’
The Grand Mufti also criticized the positions of human rights organizations, the UN Security Council, and the United Nations, calling their collective silence “astonishing.” He added: “What is happening reflects the erosion of human values and the loss of human rights in the absence of clear international action.”
This statement comes in the wake of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and their removal from the country. Trump claimed that the operation followed extensive attacks against Venezuela and that his administration was seeking a potential replacement for Maduro.
Meanwhile, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across various U.S. cities to oppose Trump’s actions.
The European Union, the United Kingdom, Iran, Colombia, China, Russia, Brazil, and the Taliban have all reacted to the incident.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the U.S. action as “establishing a dangerous precedent” and announced that the Security Council will convene today to discuss the matter.
