Iran’s Consul General in Balkh: Ready to Expand Oil Cooperation with Afghan Traders

According to IRAF News Agency, during his visit to Hairatan, Ahmadi emphasized Iran’s willingness to develop energy partnerships with Afghan business actors.

Pointing to the growing importance of regional cooperation, he noted that Iran possesses extensive capabilities in oil refining, which could be leveraged to support Afghanistan’s economic operators.

Ahmadi described the role of the private sector as “key” in advancing these initiatives, stressing that active engagement from traders and investors could pave the way for sustainable, long-term cooperation.

Hairatan port, one of northern Afghanistan’s most important commercial gateways, plays a central role in the import of petroleum products and other essential goods. Afghan traders have consistently called for greater transparency, reduced bureaucracy, and practical facilitation in economic collaborations with neighboring countries, including Iran.

These requests come amid a context in which Afghanistan’s ports and customs management remain under the control of the Taliban administration.

Economic experts note that any regional cooperation can be truly effective only when paired with guarantees of stability, transparency, and genuine support for the private sector—factors that directly affect the quality and sustainability of Iran-Afghanistan partnerships.

Reiterating the significance of bilateral economic ties, Ahmadi emphasized that Iran is prepared to open new avenues for energy and trade cooperation with Afghanistan, in line with mutual interests.
