According to IRAF, Gholamhossein Mozaffari, Governor of Khorasan Razavi Province, said during the 140th meeting of the Government–Private Sector Consultation Council, held today (Saturday, December 27), that the country is facing wartime and emergency economic conditions, leaving no room for delay.
Mozaffari added: “The first requirement is to acknowledge that we are in an emergency situation. If action is to be taken, it must be taken immediately. All executive bodies must move beyond routine procedures.”
Referring to issues such as greenhouse development, the establishment of a gas condensates laboratory hub, and extraterritorial farming, he said: “When the opportunity exists to utilize Afghanistan’s capacity for extraterritorial cultivation, we have the necessary knowledge, and they are also willing in this regard.
Deadline Issued to Relevant Agencies for the Development of Extraterritorial Farming
The Governor of Khorasan Razavi, in an official instruction, emphasized:
“I instruct all relevant agencies to submit their consolidated and precise assessments regarding strategies for the development of extraterritorial farming, with a focus on Afghanistan, to the Governorate’s Economic Affairs Office by the end of next week. A final decision will be made soon, and there is no justification for delay.
Mozaffari said: “During my meeting with Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban governor of Herat, he stated explicitly: ‘In exchange for the water flowing into Afghanistan, come and cultivate crops and obtain agricultural products from us.’ This infrastructure already exists.”
Need for Balance in Trade with Afghanistan
Referring to Iran’s three-billion-dollar exports to Afghanistan, the Governor of Khorasan Razavi emphasized that no trading partner is merely a buyer and that trade is fundamentally based on bilateral agreements. Given the province’s water crisis, he said, the belief is that water-intensive agricultural products could be the most suitable option for import from Afghanistan.
At the end, Mozaffari called on economic actors to take action and said: “I suggest forming a consortium of agricultural sector stakeholders to act urgently. If Khorasan Razavi serves as the gateway for trade with the East, one aspect is exports, and the other is the targeted import of the country’s needed goods. This is one of the province’s key economic priorities.”
