Araghchi Responds to Trump’s Claim: Provide Evidence if You Doubt the Casualty Figures

Tehran- IRAF- following recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about the number of those killed in the January incidents, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, responded to the claims in a post on X (formerly Twitter), describing them as “unsubstantiated and politically motivated.”

Araghchi stated that from the outset, the Iranian government had emphasized transparency in informing the public. He said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has previously published a comprehensive list of 3,117 victims of the recent terrorist operations; a list that includes the names of approximately 200 law enforcement personnel who lost their lives while confronting violent acts.”

He added: “If any individual or government has doubts about the accuracy of our official data, they must present credible and verifiable evidence. Repeating media claims without documentation neither serves the truth nor replaces the need for proof.”

The senior official also stressed that some Western governments, relying on incomplete information or unofficial reports, are attempting to present a distorted picture of Iran’s internal situation. He argued that official documents released by the country’s legal institutions provide an accurate and verifiable account for public scrutiny.

The reaction comes as Donald Trump recently cited figures regarding the casualties of the January protests that do not align with Iran’s official data.

Some analysts have also described these claims as “political, unsubstantiated, and part of Washington’s media pressure campaign against Tehran.”
