Kabul–Tehran Economic Cooperation: Electricity Purchase Contract from Iran Extended

Tehran-IRAF- The Afghan power company delegation, headed by Abdul Haq Hamkar, arrived in Tehran at the invitation of Tavanir.

Today (Wednesday, February 19), the Taliban delegation held a joint meeting with Iranian officials, during which they conducted comprehensive discussions and exchanges of views on the development of electricity transmission infrastructure as well as the import of electricity from Iran to Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the extension of the electricity purchase contract from Iran for the year 2027, was officially approved.

This agreement is being signed at a time when Afghanistan, due to a decline in domestic electricity production and an urgent need for energy, has prioritized electricity imports from neighboring countries, including Iran.
