Tehran- IRAF- the Council issued a statement on Monday, February 9, strongly condemning the terrorist bombing targeting Shia worshipers in Pakistan.
The statement referred to the “heinous tragedy in the House of God,” noting that according to reports, on Friday, February 6, a brutal terrorist attack struck the Khadijeh Kubra Mosque in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
In this tragic incident, at least 30 innocent worshipers were martyred and about 170 others were injured.
The statement offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and swift recovery for the wounded, seeking mercy and healing from Almighty God.
Repetition of Unpunished Crimes Against Shia Muslims
The Council expressed its solidarity with the Muslim people of Pakistan, particularly the bereaved families and survivors, urging the Pakistani government to take greater and more effective measures to ensure the security of its citizens’ lives and property.
Referring to the series of previous terrorist attacks on Shia religious and cultural centers in Pakistan, the Council expressed regret that no credible reports have yet been released regarding the arrest or public trial of the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
Call for Prosecution of Perpetrators and Instigators
In conclusion, the statement voiced hope that this time, those who carried out and ordered this act of terrorism will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice through a fair and public trial.
This terrorist attack has drawn international condemnation and global reactions.
In Afghanistan, the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense condemned the attack and dismissed Pakistani officials’ accusations that Afghanistan had a role in the incident, labeling such claims illogical and an attempt to cover up internal security failures.
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan also issued a statement condemning the suicide bombing on the Shia mosque in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.
