Tehran-IRAF- Uzbekistan and Pakistan, in their joint statement, urged the Taliban government in Afghanistan to take “urgent and concrete measures” against militant groups.
The two sides emphasized that security stability in Afghanistan is vital not only for regional security but also for advancing major economic and transport initiatives, particularly the trilateral Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan railway project.
The statement was released at the end of the Uzbek president’s official visit to Pakistan, during which officials from both countries once again stressed the necessity of establishing lasting peace in Afghanistan as a prerequisite for regional economic development.
The statement noted that “several terrorist organizations continue to operate from within Afghanistan and pose a serious threat to regional and global security”—a claim the Taliban have previously rejected, insisting that they do not allow any foreign armed groups to operate from Afghan territory.
During official meetings and talks between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the President of Uzbekistan in Islamabad, the two sides reviewed a broad range of bilateral issues.
They agreed to design a Joint Action Plan and specific implementation mechanisms to deepen relations and accelerate cooperation in the economic, trade, energy, transport, and security sectors.
Within this framework, the two countries signed and exchanged 29 cooperation documents, treaties, and memoranda of understanding—agreements that observers believe could pave the way for expanded economic ties and a stronger role for both countries in regional projects.
These agreements also indicate that Tashkent and Islamabad are seeking, through closer coordination, to play a more active role in shaping the security and economic dynamics of Central and South Asia.
