Tehran- IRAF- Majid Morteza’ei said at a press conference on Tuesday, January 27, ahead of the start of the tournament, that Afghan futsal is on an upward trajectory and that the technical staff is working to stabilize the team’s standing among leading regional and global sides.
The AFC Futsal Asian Cup is being hosted by Indonesia, and Afghanistan’s national team will face Saudi Arabia tomorrow in their opening match.
Referring to the match, the Afghan head coach said: “Saudi Arabia is one of the top teams in Asia, and we have carried out the necessary planning for this match.”
Commenting on Group D, which includes Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, Morteza’ei explained: “Our group is extremely tough, and we have no easy matches ahead of us.” Highlighting the high level of the opponents, he added:
“Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia are all strong and well‑prepared teams. Saudi Arabia has made remarkable progress under its current head coach and has posed serious challenges to many opponents. Iran has always been one of the undisputed powers of Asia and the world, and facing them is extremely difficult. Malaysia’s recent results also show that the team is rapidly becoming a serious contender.”
He concluded by emphasizing: “That is why we have planned for all matches down to the final moment, and we will do our utmost to deliver the best possible performance.”
