Deadlock in Washington: Arab States’ Positions Have Complicated Plans to Attack Iran

Tehran- IRAF- The recent reports indicate that the positions of countries in the region, especially the United Arab Emirates, regarding military action against Iran have significantly complicated Washington’s equations. These developments have weakened the likelihood of a military attack on Iran.

According to a report by Sky News Arabia, the United Arab Emirates has explicitly stated that it will not allow the use of its airspace, land territory, or waters in any military action against Iran, and that it will not provide any logistical support. The country has emphasized the primacy of diplomacy, the reduction of tensions, and adherence to international law.

The outlet quoted Hadi Deloul, a professor of international law, as saying: the narrowing of political and military options makes decision‑making difficult for Washington. The UAE’s position is an important step toward keeping its territory neutral in any potential military confrontation. On the other hand, the declaration of neutrality by the Gulf states prevents the advancement of Israel’s plans to attack Iran. In this context, the question arises as to how prepared the United States Department of Defense is to accept potential losses at the level of commanders and military expenditures, which in itself weakens the option of a military attack.

Stressing that “Iran is prepared for worst‑case scenarios and, at the same time, has not closed the door to diplomacy,” Deloul pointed to the possibility of exchanging messages through official channels, intermediaries, and the United Nations, and added that Tehran says Washington must accept responsibility for what occurred during the twelve‑day war.

This international law expert added that Iran possesses geographic depth, vast territory, and geographic elevations and depressions that allow it to test its missile capabilities in the field, while the heavy weapons of the United States are tested in military laboratories. He emphasized that the United States has never before faced a country with Iran’s current capabilities.

Deloul warned that wagering on a military solution in a confrontation of this magnitude remains fraught with dangers, and raised the question of whether the United States is prepared to bear the cost of a full‑scale war—a debate that is now also underway within the Pentagon itself.

He went on to praise the UAE’s position on this matter, described it as aligned with Saudi Arabia’s position, and said that many influential figures in the United States—including rational and pragmatic actors and investors—are fully aware of the economic and strategic risks of such a potential U.S. action and, for this reason, are working to restrain hardliners.
