Ongoing Nationwide Protests in the United States; Immigration Authorities at the Center of Public Anger

Tehran- IRAF- Residents of Chicago and local officials, following the killing of Alex Perti, a Minneapolis nurse, held three emergency protests across the city, demanding that the operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “must be halted.”

These protests have spread to several U.S. states, including Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, Boston, and Providence, Rhode Island. This comes as a U.S. citizen was recently shot dead by security forces in the city of Minneapolis, while the U.S. Department of Homeland Security claimed that the suspect was armed and that his firearm was discovered and confiscated by officers.

Local officials have sharply criticized the federal government’s hardline immigration policies, saying that this approach has led to rising tensions and deadly incidents.

They have also rejected federal officials’ narrative describing the shootings as acts of “self‑defense,” and, citing videos recorded by eyewitnesses, say that these images clearly call the government’s official account into question.

In recent weeks, the state of Minnesota has witnessed widespread clashes between federal ICE agents and protesters. Reports indicate that the streets of Minneapolis have turned into scenes of confrontation between agents and protesters, as well as migrants whom the Trump administration labels as “illegal.”
