Crackdown in Minnesota; Obama and Clinton Call for Protests

Tehran- IRAF- Following the crackdown on protests in the U.S. state of Minnesota—sparked by the killing of Alex Perti last week and the shooting of Renny Good—former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama issued separate statements condemning these actions.

Criticism of “Unprecedented” and “Intimidating” Methods

In their statement, the Obama family referred to the “unprecedented methods” of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, saying: “It appears that masked ICE agents and other federal officers are acting with impunity and employing tactics designed to intimidate, harass, and endanger residents.” They also accused the current administration of being eager to escalate tensions rather than seeking to restore order.

Barack Obama and his wife Michelle described the incident as a “heart‑wrenching tragedy” and stressed that it should serve as a wake‑up call for all Americans, as, in their words, “many of the nation’s fundamental values” are under attack.

Clinton: “Officials Are Lying”

Bill Clinton, meanwhile, described the events in Minneapolis as “horrific” in posts on social media and called on those who believe in American democracy to rise up, speak out, and demonstrate that the nation still belongs to “We the People.”

Clinton added: “Officials are lying to the people and telling them not to believe what we have seen with our own eyes.”

Meanwhile, according to NBC News, the White House has not responded to requests for comment regarding Clinton’s statement.

Minnesota: Scene of Recent Clashes

In recent weeks, the state of Minnesota has witnessed widespread clashes between federal immigration agents and protesters. Reports indicate that the streets of Minneapolis have turned into a battleground between officers and protesters and migrants whom the Trump administration labels as “illegal.”
