UN Deputy Secretary General Travels to Kabul to Review Afghanistan Situation

Tehran-IRAF- No official details have yet been announced regarding the objectives of the visit or the schedule of meetings of Rosemary DiCarlo. However, she is responsible for advancing the Doha process on Afghanistan, and it is expected that during this trip she will discuss recent developments and cooperation between Kabul and the United Nations with Taliban authorities.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary‑General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric has said that he himself will travel to Kabul in the near future to assess the situation in Afghanistan and meet with Taliban officials. This comes amid warnings from international organizations about the worsening humanitarian conditions in the country, particularly during the winter season.

Previously, the Secretary‑General’s spokesperson stated that the United Nations would continue engaging with all stakeholders in Afghanistan, including the Taliban.

Earlier this month, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that Afghanistan is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, estimating that around 22.9 million people—nearly half of the population—require humanitarian assistance.

The ICRC report cited livelihood insecurity, persistent unemployment, and limited access to healthcare services as key factors increasing families’ vulnerability, and warned that the ongoing political deadlock, human rights crisis, security conditions, and the activities of terrorist groups remain major concerns for the international community regarding Afghanistan.
