French MP Calls for US to be Stripped of World Cup Hosting Rights

Tehran- IRAF- Eric Coquerel, a French MP from the “La France Insoumise” party, has strongly criticized US policies and urged FIFA to assign the 2026 World Cup to Mexico and Canada, excluding the United States. This call comes in response to US actions such as threatening Denmark with tariffs over its opposition to Greenland’s accession, violating international laws, attempting to undermine the United Nations, and supporting far-right and racist groups along its borders. Coquerel questioned the logic of hosting the World Cup in a country that attacks its neighbors and highlighted security and political concerns, including restrictions on fans from around 15 countries attending matches. This request reflects growing criticism of US policies globally and concerns about their impact on major sporting events. However, it remains unclear how FIFA will respond to this request.
