According to Iraf News Agency, quoting ISNA, Manoochehr Bijar, the Governor of Sistan and Baloochestan, stated during a field visit of the province’s infrastructure projects; “the Chabahar-Zahedan railway project is progressing according to the schedule set by the executor and employer. The rail-laying operation from Khash to Iranshahr has been completed, and currently, is underway from Iranshahr and Chabahar towards Nikshahr.
He added that a good executive capacity is expected to be activated in the province with this project, and an assurance has been given to complete the rail-laying operation by the end of this year and utilize the project.
The Governor of Sistan and Baloochestan emphasized the importance of completing the Eastern Corridor, which is stressed by the President, and stated; “despite financial and credit limitations, with the follow-ups and the President’s special instruction, the executive operation for the Zahedan-Milk railway and its continuation to Zabol and Birjand has been issued.
He explained that the goal of this project is to connect the Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar and the Makran coast to the Sistan Free Zone and Afghanistan (Milk border) in the shortest possible distance.
The completion of this corridor to Birjand will connect us to Central Asian countries, which is also very important for these countries.
On January 29, Bijar stated that the strategic Chabahar-Zahedan railway project, as the main artery connecting the oceanic port of Chabahar to the national rail network, plays a key role in increasing Iran’s share in the international transportation chain.
He added that this project has reached its final stages with the special attention of the 14th government and the allocation of 20 trillion rials in financial resources, and is on the verge of operation.
